Easy Easter Cookies for Kids (Simple Recipe + Alternative to Easter Eggs)
Hey lovelies,
We baked these super simple Easter cookies to give out to friends and family.
So if you’re looking for a little alternative to Easter eggs (or just something extra to add in), this is a really easy one to do.
Minimal ingredients, nothing fancy, and you can decorate them however you like… or not at all (honestly, we kept most of ours plain and they were perfect!).
Why we love this
It’s one of those activities that feels low effort but keeps little hands busy.
Rolling, cutting shapes, picking their favourite ones…
and somehow they stay at it way longer than I expected.
Plus having something they made themselves to gift? They’re very proud of that.
The recipe
You’ll need:
- 400g plain flour
- 200g butter (room temp)
- 200g caster sugar
- 1 egg, lightly whisked
- A little vanilla paste
For chocolate cookies I swapped 2 tablespoons of flour for cocoa
How to make it
- Cream butter, sugar, egg and vanilla
- Add flour and mix until just combined
- Wrap and chill for a couple of hours
Rolling & baking
- Dust your surface with a bit of flour
- Roll out dough
- Big cookies → about 8mm thick
- Tiny ones → around 5mm
- Cut into shapes (bunnies were the favourite here 🐰)
- Chill again so they don’t spread
- Preheat oven 180 degree Celcius
- Bake 10-12 minutes for large cookies, 7-8 minutes for tiny cookies or until golden
Make sure you bake similar sized cookies together
Decorating idea
The possibilities are endless! I have used rolled fondant before but this time some we will keep plain, some we are dipping with melted chocolate then sprinkle with Hundreds and Thousands.
Hope you love!
PS: I have baked using this cookie recipe many many times over the years so I memorised it. I think this was based on Peggy Porschen's sugar cookie recipe.
